Tolumnia genting yellow no leaves
I got this Tolumnia Genting Yellow as a rescue couple days ago from a friend. The leaves of many fans seems to have rotted away, with some tiny fans left and a really desiccated root system. Keep or throw? If keep, any caution? Thanks so much

There is still hope for the plant. I think it was overwatered. Just follow the culture and dont baby it too much.

I would still take care of it and let it grow. I'm pretty sure it will survive. No leaves does not mean no life, at least with orchids!!

Many people find these easiest to care for bare-root. They need to be dipped in water every day if grown this way. Skipping a day here and there will bother them, and skipping a few days can be fatal.

I will state up front that Tolumnias hate me.
When i look at your plant, i don't see much to give me hope. If it were mine I would toss. Previous posts above offer more hope than I can, and there is nothing to be lost by trying. Good luck.

ES is correct, don't give it too much love. If it were me, and they like me, I'd clean it up a little and do what ES said. If you have a clay pot, put it in there and hang it in bright, not hot light. They are in a growth season now. I'd dunk it in fish emulsion or something nutritious once a day but don't forget they like a wet dry cycle but not too dry.

It is still very much salvageable. I would try mounting it without moss and put it in a very humid environment.
I find Tolumnias to be rather finicky, especially with humidity and watering, particularly if they are the tiny ones. You can get the lighting down right. You can get the temperatures right. If it isn't humid enough or if you skip out on watering too much, you can kiss some of these goodbye in a matter of a few months. I think Tolumnias are mostly a group of orchids where humidity does matter. Honestly, 70% - 80% humidity may not be enough (I had a Tolumnia velutina in that humidity range and it still ended up falling apart). It may have to consistently be 90% - 100% for them to thrive.
I also find that Tolumnias do not need too much looking after if you stick them in a very high humidity setting. The struggle comes when humidity is below what they like.
They grow on the warmer side of intermediate to warm (60 F - 95 F).
Moderately bright indirect light is good enough.
I currently am trying to save whatever I have left of a Tolumnia velutina. Thankfully, I didn't buy this guy, it was an extra plant during a purchase, (I've only really intentionally and willingly purchased a Tolumnia velutina once in my entire time growing orchids). It started off looking awesome and slowly declined. This was when I decided to put it in one of my largest dart frog tanks and try growing them there. The humidity is around 92% in there. I think my Tolumnia velutina might be making some sort of a recovery. There are still 2 tiny fans left.
I'm telling you my struggles with my Tolumnia to let you know what I had to do to save mine so maybe you can have a point of reference.
Anyways, good luck with your plant. I hope it pulls through for you.

Phillip, I respectfully bow to you as the King but, my humidity is 40-50% and my light bright indirect, 77f. My Tolumnias are in clay and bark, get soaked 3x a week and are doing well (that being said, they will die tomorrow). I think this again, depends on where the OP lives.
I just added two babies to my collection, I love these spikey little guys! Don't give up!

Maybe it depends on the Tolumnia, idk. Tolumnia velutina has never done well for me. It didn't do well the first time I bought it. It didn't do well this time around when it was a bonus plant.
Mine was given to me mounted on a stick, (tells you where it came from ).

Thank you guys a lot. This tolumnia currently stays in a 2in plastic pot with many ventilation holes. I put large chunk of bark medium in it and water about every other day. It stays at around 85% humidity. I'm a beginner for tolumnia, when you guys say soak as in the whole plant in water? Cause I read somewhere saying water cannot get into the fans because it increases the chance of yellowing leaves and rot. Thanks.
