Moving with orchids!
Helio, people!
I have recently began my journey on orchid growing and now I am about to go on a new journey. My husband and I are about to move from our current home to a new one... on another state! My doubt is if there is a proper way to transport and care for my orchids while on the road. We are not taking many things so all of our things that will go to the new home, including my orchids, will be in the car with us.
We'll be on the road for two to three days. Supposedly temperature in both states are similar, although my new home will probably have drier conditions. My orchid collection consists of a Potinara Free Spirit, a Denphal, an Oncidium Twinkle, an Oncostele Wildcat and a noid Dendrobium.
Any advice?
Thank you!

The biggest concern with transporting orchids in the car is to protect them from the sun that comes in the windows - it is easy to toast leaves in a few seconds if the sun comes in at full intensity, and the car can get very hot very quickly if it is parked while you are getting lunch and not shaded. Don't worry about providing "growing conditions" in the car... protect the plants from the sun, and try to control heat when you stop.

I have heard that some people wrap orchids up in newspaper and lay them inside a cooler for a move. This protects the orchids when one stops for a meal or sight-seeing expedition. It is easier than packing them in a box and carrying them into a restaurant or motel room but you can also do that.

Wow, thank you! I'll make sure to check those videos, although I don't have as many orchids as the person has! But I suppose if she did it, I can do it too!

You only have a few and it is only 2-3 days. They will be fine if you wrap them in newspaper and put them in an open box. The newspaper is to keep the sun off them and to keep the leaves from being torn when you open the windows while driving.
Take them into your room at night if it is cold where you stop.

when I had fewer plants, i transported them in a plastic ice chest (or "cooler") . Plant medium should be dry (or removed). Check local agricultural regulations on moving plants state-to-state, follow the rules if there are restrictions (the regulations may be intended to keep pests from being moved around-.
Place a plastic bag loosely around the pot or root ball. Wrap newspaper loosely over the leaves, lay plants horizontally and close the cooler lid.
The cooler will protect plants from heat for brief periods (1 or 2 hours) when you must stop for food, rest, etc.
