Vanda Orchids have not bloomed
Default Vanda Orchids have not bloomed

Hello,
I am new to owning Vanda Orchids. I have 2 plants. I live in central Florida, the orchids are in my screen enclosure. They get at least 6-7 hours of sunlight, which is filtered from the screen enclosure. they get watered daily, and fertilized weekly. They are producing new leaves and new roots like crazy. Some roots have grown out of the center stalk right through the leaves. At first I thought it was a bloom. (very discouraging ) One plant has a set of leaves now growing out of the root clump.
I would love to get them to bloom!! Can anyone help??
Thank You!!

Please post 5 posts and post some pics.

None of us know if they are blooming sized or not.

How long have you had them?

This is prime blooming season for many Vandas. If they're blooming sized, grown well, and have established themselves, they will spike without much effort.

How bright is it where they are growing?

My Vandas are growing where it is usually quite bright, but the light is still indirect. Bright indirect morning or bright indirect afternoon sun is what they get.

Temperature variance also is a factor to induce flower spike. There should be a 15-25 F temperature swing between day and night.

I'm in central Florida also and it's blooming season... your plants look big enough. Although they don't look too dark a green in the photos, I'd try upping the amount of sun they receive by a bit first. They're sun lovers. There are some vanda specialists in this area you can visit and ask; Goodwin's in Leesburg has only vandas, or there's Sunny in Clermont.
