Hi! I'm new to this forum and have been working on my orchid growing skills for a few years but am still totally a novice. I bought a healthy looking phalaenopsis today that has 5 flowers and 5 buds. I know most people say to wait to repot until after it's done blooming or you might lose your blooms, but on further examination I think I have some mold in the potting media (bark/moss) and it is soaking wet. Should I wait or repot now? Thanks!
Ok. So we'll see how it goes. I'm glad I repotted though. The roots were soaked with some green but a lot of white roots with black spots. Only one rotten root. I did hydrogen peroxide and repotted in bark. I'm letting the roots dry out a day or so? Fingers crossed! Thanks for the help.
I would wait at least until the roots and bark are totally dry before watering. At least a couple days. If the bark is damp, wait longer (week?)
The hydrogen peroxide is a strong oxidizer; you may get away with doing it once, but try to avoid getting it on roots. Hydrogen peroxide is less harmful when used to wipe down leaves due to the waxy leaf coating.
