Should I upsize my pot?
Hello Everyone!
I'm repotting my phal orchids, as their blooms just faded. Do you think that I need to upsize my pot? The current container is 4.5 inches, and the leaf span is about 14 inches (when the leaves are sitting naturally).
Thanks in advance!

The root ball size determines the size of the pot, not the foliage, so the same pot still seems fine.

Well, when someone can give me a good reason why phals should have their roots crammed into a small pot, I'll consider it.
Till then mine will stay in their big, shallow pots.

I concur, perfect pot for a healthy looking Phalaenopsis!

Most people have severe space limitations. Using smaller pots means they can enjoy more plants. I can grow Bursera trees in the ground outside, whereas most succulentists keep them in 4" / 10cm pots.

Well, I guess it has to do with how often the plants are being watered, the characteristics of the media and the environment.

Apparently large shallow pots works for you. But the original poster asked about the pot in question. I replied because I grow my Phals in similar clear plastic pots in sphagnum moss.

To the OP, use that size pot if plastic works for you, or a similar sized terracotta pot (which I prefer due to improved wicking of excess water).
