A question since you grow in moss. Someone on here posted that he found that phals grown in moss are more susceptible to cold. Do you find this?

I take your point. However, if I packed mine into tiny pots, I still couldn't pack them much tighter. Those are 13" pots, and the plants fill them with leaves. If I halved the pot, I couldn't put them much closer. If I did, then if I needed to get one out for treatment there would be serious risk of damage, and the weight of the blooms would be forever tipping the pot over.
If space were an issue, I would grow mini phals.

Fort Wayne, Indiana has very cold weather--bad for tropical plants like Phalaenopsis. Generally speaking, these Phals would suffer from cold temperatures regardless of the potting media.

I do have Phals growing in sphagnum moss and other Phals growing in orchid potting mix. Because my plants grow indoors with me, the Phals in moss use less watering time than the plant's in hark. I have to soak the pots in water for 15 minutes or so. The plants in moss, I water at the kitchen sink, the moss absorbs faster and slowly releases the moisture to the plant--creating a humidity zone around the roots. Forced air heating systems produce very dry, warm air, the warmth is good but the dryness, not good. Hence the sphagnum moss.

Bark or moss, you have to adjust your behavior to provide the right culture. It would be easier to have all my Phals in the same potting media but I like the challenge.

OK, thanks for that. The comment about them suffering more from cold in moss was interesting, and I was curious to see if others found it to be so..

Interesting to see the soak time. Me, I just spray the media till the water runs out the bottom. Only takes a minute or so.
Do you find in the house yours dry out really fast?
