Den. Johnathan's Glory 'Dark Joy' grew a keiki... which then turned into a spike. It's odd to see a spike with roots dangling off, but nonetheless a pleasant surprise!
Hopefully this will safety develop into a bloom...
I've seen this happen on my kingianum ... it's also had spikes that after blooming, spike looks dead, I cut it off, and then the remaining nub starts roots, and the grow cycle becomes a keiki (new growth starts from the spike nub). Dens in general, and kingianum in particular seems to be full of surprises I also have a Jonathan's Glory - it's a great hybrid!

I have a Den. Frank Thrall that is just finishing blooming from a keiki which has substantial roots. I have been spritzing the roots with water as I care for the plant. Now that the blooms are dropping, I'm hoping that maybe a leaf will appear from somewhere, or a secondary keiki growth. It seems like a shame to waste those good roots.
