Dendrobium Berry Oda - suitable for beginners?
The nursery where I work will be getting some Dendrobium Berry Oda next week. I would love to get one, but wondered if they are suitable for beginners? I've read that they like conditions similar to Phalaenopsis type dens - is that right? Because I have two Dendrobium Sa-nooks that seem quite happy with me. Any helpful advice for a newbie would be appreciated!

Search on the name. It's in the upper maroon menu bar. OB members in the UK and EU have written about their plants in the past.
All I remember is it has D. kingianum in its heritage, it is incredibly beautiful, it should not be hard to grow, and I want one.

I did try a search but it just came up with some photos of other people's orchids, not anything on how to look after them, but I'll have another go. I'm not very IT savvy, so I've probably missed something!

It can be grown as a den nobile, although it can handle less light (dappled indirect) and warmer temps.
The rest of the cultivation seems to be the same.

Ok, thanks. I tried to find some information online, and got very confused, as some places said it needs a winter rest and others said it didn't, and some said it liked loads of light and warmth and others said it didn't! I think I will get one and I'll try it where I have my other dens and see how I get on!

Hi everyone and thanks for your advice. My Dendrobium Berry Oda flowered beautifully and then produced three huge keikis which threatened to overbalance the plant, so I removed them, potted them up and gave them to a friend. It's just starting to produce some new flower spikes, so I'm looking forward to its first rebloom under my care.

I guess it depends who I compare myself with! I know a lot more than I did last year, but compared with many people on orchid board, I'm very definitely still a beginner! |
