Weird as weird can be...
I find this loopy growth strange... what, why, how do I fix it? I should I bother?

It looks like a flower spike that got stuck to me, but then matured... Are you sure it's not attached to the flower above and just got stuck in a leaf bract at some point?
Could also be a deformity. The plant looks okay to me, I would leave it be unless it starts to look like it's causing trouble with an infection or something.

I agree that it's a flower spike. It actually grew back into itself. A perfect circle. It's into itself so firm, I could hang the plant from it! I'll leave it be unless I see something nasty start up. So strange. Thanks for replying.

I think that if that was my plant I'd clip that abortive stem.

Ok. Stupid question time: where should I cut? Both ends? And dab with cinnamon ya?

Cut reasonably close to its point of origin. Using cinnamon is always a good idea.

UPDATE: Turns out it was the flower spike you could see in my photo. While growing it made a 360• turn then pierced itself through the base of a leaf, kept growing, and flowered.
Long story short - I cut off a flower spike. 😏

I was afraid that may be the case
You could put it in a vase. Might not last as long as on the plant, but will let you get a little more time with those blooms.

I had a dendrobium do this. I think the Nobile. I tried to fix it, but ended up breaking it. All I can say is watch the developing spike, and if it starts going in an odd direction, head it off at the pass, I guess.

That's exactly what I did...the plant has another spike full of blooms.

For me, it's been a perfect example of the proverbial "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I've got to stop fussing so much with them and leave my orchids be as long as nothing nasty's going on. Oh well.
