Quick question about a Phaius Tankervilleae

If you cut the spike back past the last bloom after they have all died will it rebloom like some other orchids will???

Afraid not. You have to wait until next year for a new spike from a new growth. Sorry for the bad news.

On the other hand - I've been told this, but have not been successful with it myself - if you cut the spike up into sections containing a "node" in the middle, and lay them down flat in a moist, sandy medium, just nestling them into the medium, they can sometimes sprout new growths. I suspect they have to be warm and humid while you wait.

Shelia - Thanx for the answer i was pretty sure that it wouldnt but i thought it never hurts to ask.

Ray - I read that too.. i saw an article somewhere showing that... it showed putting the medium acros the bottom of a glass baking dish and putting some ceran wrap across the top.... ill look it up again and post link....ill be trying it in a coupld weeks here and will update everybody as always

I was going to try propagating from the spike this year, but I've been too busy and now the spike is all brown. Oh well, it's not like I have the space for more of these giants anyway!

I haven't tried the spike propagating method but I'll be a heat mat would help. My spikes aborted this year for some reason, first time in the 4 years I've had it.
