Great plants! Standard Cymbidiums are large plants that take up a lot of space and need a pretty good temperature drop at night for a few weeks in late summer to fall, or they don't bloom. The cooler you can keep them when in flower, the longer the flowers last. The flowers will not be damaged until they reach freezing.

Oh ! Your Beallara Big Shot 'Hilo Sparkle' is lovely, well they are all pretty, but the Beallara really is the kind Orchids that makes me go all soft.

Since, I'm a beginner I was not going to start right a way with Hybrid from the Oncidium/Odontoglossum alliance. But seeing your Beallara Big Shot 'Hilo Sparkle' I believe I won't be able to resist the temptation when I go to the Orchid Expo in Montreal next Week.

Hope you have much success with your new acquisitions.

Chantrelle, talk to the vendors about the plants, and tell them what your growing conditions are like. They will suggest good plants for you.

My apologies @Cheddarbob14 to intrude your post with my personal stuff.

Thursday I drove to Montreal to see an Opera and visited a well known east Canadian Orchids growers (They will be at the expo). I was told my home conditions would be fine to grow hybrids of the Oncidium/Odontoglossum alliance. (There were not many of them in flowers, I suspect they are keeping those for the expo next week-end.)

I was going to wait and just go with Phal for now but Cheddarbob14 your picture confirms to me I will not be able too.

But for sure I'll talk with the vendor at the show for their input.

Many home growers find Oncidium hybrids easier to grow than Phalaenopsis, and Oncidiums often make new flowers several times per year. If you buy one, be sure to select one with a good fragrance.

Cheddarbob, I had a lot of cymb questions earlier this month. There will be loads of info in the cymbidium forum. It should all be near the top as it was quite recent. I ordered Imperial Cymb mix from Repot me and so far, my mini cymb seems happy. Nice haul.
