I don't think there's nothing scientific about soaking or flushing, except not forgeting that orchid roots are not "designed" to live underwater.
By other hand, there are tons of reasons why some of us soak and others don't.
In my case, what makes me soak is to prevent water getting into the crowns of plants with unruly leaves(not only phals). I do it with some phals and catts.
I also do it with oncidiums and a stan because they need moist and I water them in my lunch hour, which exists for me to have lunch and not water plants.
So, leaving them soaking for 10 min is mostly a way to save some time than any other reason.
All the plants that I soak are growing fine.
