They're sturdy plants. If it's grown new roots already it should recover. It may take a while.

ES, I cant thank you enough, you've been awesome with helping answer all my newbie questions.
Im pretty happy with my orchids production and just started to get into propagation so its been enjoyable. Id like to get something outside of just phals, what would you recommend for a hotter area like south Texas to get as a second orchid species?

If it helps as far as my depth of keeping goes, I also work with assorted bonsai and multiple roses. So Im ok with a challenge but Id like to be careful on jumping too high above my orchid level. Any ideas on a secondary orchid species would be great (love the Dracs, and Butterfly orchids the most).

You're welcome. I'm hot and dry. There are Orchid Board members in south Texas who can better advise as to hot and humid. They should be by shortly.

There are plenty of warm-growing orchids. Some need bright light year round, and some need shade year round. Some need warm temperatures all year, and some are OK with cooler winter temperatures.

Limiting factors for most people are winter warmth and light, and summer cooling.

If you have to bring everything indoors for the winter, and you have limited window space, you're going to wind up with using lights indoors. There is an enormous amount of information about this in a separate Growing Under Lights forum here. If I were starting out I would go straight to LEDs and skip the older alternatives.

What is it like outside in the summer? How hot? Do you have a patio or trees under which you can shade outdoor orchids during the summer?

If you want Draculas you either need to convert a wine cooler or move to far north Yankeelandia:

So do some thinking about what conditions (temperature, light, humidity) you can provide winter and summer, how much indoor space you have in the winter, and whether you are willing to buy some lights.

Oh... and start collecting rain for your orchids. It will probably be better than tap water.

Wow thats a lot to go through lol.
Well summers here are in the mid 90s-100+
Winters range around 40-70+F (yeah i know...)
We get quite a fair amount of rain yearly and we rarely get down to the 20s-30s, maybe 3-4 times a year. South Central Texas to be exact is a very weather ranging area lol.

I dont have a space issue. I live on multiple acres, covered in St Augustine grass with subterranean water (crazy i know).

l also have a 20 x 20ft greenhouse and my back porch is about a 1/4 acre of cemented walkways and massive trees surrounding it, so shade is not a problem.
My front porch gets morning and afternoon sun and has an acre of property up front.
I also have 2 spare rooms that I could do hydroponic or temp specific/light specific.

I hope that doesnt seem braggy, I just wanted to explain what I have to work with. Im getting ready to set up a garden on the property as well.

Ill have to look into some of the lighting and greenhouse setups and links you provided ES (many thanks) and see which direction I want to start with my next orchid species. Lol this is a hard choice D:!!
