I wish someone would invent smell-o-vision for these things! That sounds great. And the plant itself is so lush and graceful looking. And the flowers are of course beautiful. I even like how they are held amongst the leaves. I love all the great plants you have to show off Ross. :biggrin:

Hi, I skimmed through, except the links, and did not see it mentioned so I will put forth my favorite. This is a native Mexican orchid probably Stanhopea tigerina that I purchased before the Cities convention. It is badly over grown but at last flowering had well over one hundred blossoms, each approx three inches across. Here in Ontario it hangs under a tree in the summer and spends the winter in a small building at approx 50 deg F. The sent is somewhat cinimon like and is obvious 50ft away inside the house. I will try to locate and post the photos. D-D-

I'm always amazed how subjective scent can be. There are some orchid scents that most people agree on, but there always seems to be someone who doesn't like what everyone else does. So I make no claims except for my own nose.

Besides Brassavola nodosa, Max. tenuifolia, and Zygopetalums, I also enjoy the strong melon scent of my Diplocaulobium arachnoideum.

I have a Bulbo trigonosepalum (doggy doo)! Its smells horrible But I love it. Sniff Sniff yep it deffiantly smells like dog dung. I believe it has something to do with being pollinated by a fly.

:scratchhead: I'm speechless.....I am also green as far as orchids and please somebody tell me that is a joke! Our beloved orchids couldnt possibly do that? really?

Mother Nature is just full of tricks. There is also a plant that smells like rotting flesh. Isn't that a lovely thought? I'll take orchids anyday, except for the doggy doo one!

Ditto on the zygos. I have Adelaide Meadow x z. Conway's Choice and another unnamed zygo - their scent is so spicy, plus they are easy to grow.

There's more than just an orchid for every person, there's an orchid for many, many bugs too, including that lovely doggy doo for flies. It doesn't stop there either. Some orchids are downright sexy! :blushing: :coverlaugh: They mimic female insects (usually wasps) to attract males of the same species, and you know what those guys are thinking with!
