Ooh, I just need to add my two cents (scents?) here.
My favourites are: softcane Dendrobiums: floral, with a spicy, dangerous bottom note. Blc Greenwich: which smells exactly like rose-geranium aromatherapy oil. It has the Brassavola/Rhyncholaelia digbyana heritage to thank for that! Yummo. http://www.rozanskiorchidhouse.com/p...EN/CA02504.jpg |
I read Cattleya Iricolor is suppose to be the stongest fragrant orchid known. It only blooms for 2 weeks, so it is more fragrant to attract a pollinator quicker. I have never seen one myself.

Here is what Cattleya iricolor looks like and it's fragrance is known to be ... 'different' - check out these threads -

Here're my favorite fragrant orchids...
I've grown an Aerangis fastuosa before, and it's fragrance is so strong it filled my entire living room with it's sweet and spicy fragrance. Only one flower was in bloom at the time. This is a miniature with the plant being no taller than 3 inches and the flowers are about an inch across. Brassavola cucullata was another one that I enjoyed, it is fragrant at night only. I grew it on one end of the porch and I was able to smell it's honey like fragrance from the other end. Zygopetalum mackayi smells like perfume. Of course all Zygopetalum spp. and hybrids smell nice too. Sedirea japonica are also very fragrant. Cochleanthes discolor smells strongly of cedar upclose. Cochleanthes flabelliformis smells like Old Spice. Tuberolabium kotoense smells like Old Spice as well only not as strong as Cochleanthes flabelliformis. Phalaenopsis bellina and violacea. Barkeria spectabilis also has a sweet and spicy odor to the flowers upclose. Smitinandia micrantha smells wonderfully of citrus flowers. Dendrobium unicum has an odor of orange peels. Maxillaria tenuifolia of coconuts. Gomesa crispa of roses. |
Besides B. Nodosa I have a Caularthron bicoroutum that has a wonderful morning scent. I think it smells like a sweet citrus with vanilla overtones that I cant walk by with out stopping and taking a whiff!.

Sharry Baby, baby! Smells like fresh baked chocolate chip cookies to me. Max Tenuifolia really does smell like coconut cream pie. Most Zygos are heavily scented of Jonquils. For sheer power-per-flower, I'd have to go with Sedirea Japonica. Mine bloomed for the first time with only four 1" blooms, yet I can smell it's rose scent from several feet away.

there is also Epi ciliare .... wonderful nightime scent. It is similar to the fragrance of jasmine flowers and extremely powerful....don't get too close :)

get a sherry baby it is one of my favorites
