I'd like to add (didn't see it mentioned, sorry if I missed it) Dendrobium Anna Green to the lot... the scent is quite pleasant, not too overpowering but sweet. It takes about 5 days to get strong enough to be noticed though.

Hey you sound like you know what you are talking about! I need some help... My mother has quite a few orchids aroung 20 to be exact. I recently took the care over because I noticed they were not doing so well, I repotted all of them in a Phalaenopsis mix that has bark. I cut back all of the roots that were rotted and dead. I then put a fan for air circulation that i turn on twice a day at hour intervals..... My question is what type of fertilizer do i use? I am using the stick method to see if they need watering, I am still getting the hang of that. If you could tell me anything else that I can do to make my orchids healthier it would be greatly appreciated.

Here's one with a photo:

Lc. Hausermann's Sultan "Summer Spectacular - I got it a few months ago from Housermans and it immediately grew two new leaves both of which have flowers. They opened four days ago and as of today the plant is filling our master bathroom with an incredible scent! If it keeps getting stronger it will fill at least the bedroom as well. I now have a good number of fragrant orchids and must say this is probably THE nicest, most exotic smelling one. Forget your "common" citrus, cinnamon, chocolate, coconut, etc. - this one has a dominant component like cloves but on top of that some very exotic undertones. Really cool plant, in my opinion

Of course, we are leaving tomorrow morning for vacation - terrible timing! At least our house-sitter will enjoy it...

After my C. gaskelliana bloomed earlier this Spring, I must say it has the most powerfull fragrance that I have come across yet. My C. jenmanii is pales in comparision.

My Blc Chunyeah has a very strong scent-almost objectionable, ie. It stinks. But the blooms are gorgeous. Soon to be opening!

another good scented orchid to try is one of the gongoras. mine seem to always be in flower, and the scents are so varied and wonderful.

I'm in agreement: Sharry Baby and the zygos are lovely this time of year.

Got to add currently the only scented orchid I have. Bratonia (sometimes sold as Brassia) Toscane (or Toscana... I think the plants are coming in from various places in Europe and there's some translation issues!)

Anyway... faint at first, strengthened after a couple of days, seems stronger in the mornings mainly. Sometimes it needs a close sniff, other times I can smell it at a distance.

The scent... definitely fresh ground pepper, but there's another side to it that's harder to define (especially as it seems sweeter at some times than others). I read something that said Brassia's smelt of hyacinth. I think tending that way, but not really. I don't like hyacinths: to me they smell like public loos where the cleaner's trying to hide the smell! This is more delicate. Today when I came in and had a sniff it smelt like sweet green tea (with pepper).

With the bacon someone else had, all we need now is an orchid that smells like buttered bread and we can have a bacon butty and a cuppa...
