My Phalaenopsis in bloom
Default My Phalaenopsis in bloom

Hello everyone!

After I introduced myself, I wanted to show you my beginner's collection. It is by no means special or super exotic, but beautiful nonetheless.

I set up most of my orchids in my bedroom. It is a south-eastern windows and I will put up curtains to protect them from the summer sun in a few months.

The first picture shows all of them together.

Picture number 2 shows my poor demolished Phal. I ran to the bus as I went home with my newly purchased plant and fell down. Some buds and flowers were ripped off and the leafs are partially scarred. I hope that it recovers.

The third picture shows my favourite Orchid. It blooms and blooms, even though I repotted it. Another bud opened a few hours ago.

In picture 4 you can see a beautiful pattern. It was the only orchid with this pattern I saw in the gardening center and I just couldn't resist.

Picture 5 shows a mini Phal in a deep purple-pink color. Looks beautiful when the sun shines through.

Picture number 6 shows an orchid that I rescued from the dumpster. It was thrown away just because it doesn't have much buds left.

In picture number 7 you can see a Phal with pretty pastel colours. The flowers are a faint yellow in the middle and a soft rose all around.

Picture 8 shows my newest addition. I love the pink speckle.

And finally in photo number 9 you can see my bedroom windowsill setup.

Phew, that was it.
I hope you like them as much as I do.

Regards, Izobel

What a fabulous collection! Each is prettier than the next. Your favorite is also my favorite, but the newest is also a delight. I can so feel your pain when you fell carrying plant #2 - bruises and scrapes on my skin are meaningless if the plant I'm carrying is damaged! However, I have no doubt that the plant will recover. Right now I have a Phalaenopsis Fuller's Sunset which has, over the past 9 months, been knocked from its perch at least 3 separate times, once smashing the pot it was in. A nasty mouse made a meal of part of a leaf, and several original flowers. On one fall the ends of BOTH flower stems were snapped clean off. But Phals are about as resiliant as any plant can be and both stems produced new shoots which are now filled with flowers, and a third spike is weeks away from blooming as well. This plant is probably doomed to a violent death, however; this morning when carrying it to the sink, I ALMOST dropped it yet again!

Thanks a lot for your replies!
@jkofferdahl You have given me hope, that my "patient" will recover, thanks! It seems that your Phal has had a rough life the past months, I'm glad that it always recovered. Though I hope that a violent death is avoidable, haha.

Thank you so much, guys! I'm really happy with my Phalaenopsis. It is a pleasure to walk into the rooms and see those beautiful flowers.

@Irielicious I love those speckles, too. I took a few pictures of some new Phals for you which are all speckled, some more and some less. My favourite speckled Phal is the yellow one with those myriad of dark pink dots. I think the little white one with just a few pink dots in all sizes is pretty, too. It's always a surprise to see where a newly opened bud has speckles. The yellowish/rose one has tiny speckles, it's a nice detail, I think.

Very nice. The speckles are stunning! I'm smitten by them too. Your pics are nicely done, too.
