Coelia Triptera - cultivation
Good afternoon,
after introducing myself, I ask for help on the cultivation of coelia triptera.
Practically a few months ago, they gave me a coelia.
The plant is fine, but do not understand why no blooms.
Practically it is in a pot and is located in front of a window in full light a south.
I treat it like a phalaenopsis...I water when needed.
and I fertilize every 15 days.
How can I post some pictures.
Please, can I get some help here on the cultivation?
Sorry for the translation.
Thanks
Regards,
Giovanni

Peak flowering period for this species is usually June to September, so you may just need to wait a while longer. If the plant is healthy and growing it could be fairly soon.

Coelia bella would be expected to flower mostly in December-January.
But I told you the wrong date range for Coelia triptera. Sorry. Peak bloom would be expected around March. If you don't see buds soon it might not bloom in this growth cycle. Has it shown new growth since you got it?

Good morning,
They gave me coelia last year a september.
The owner said it has never bloomed.
I wanted to know if there are special care for coelia triptera.
Thanks

Giovanni

Sorry I didn't comment on that specifically. What you did say about culture is fine, bright light in south window (as long as it isn't getting sunburned), water like Phalaeanopsis, fertilizer a couple times a month - all good. One limitation of indoor growing, it probably doesn't get as cool at night as it would prefer - 12-15C - but I'm not sure how much of a problem that is for this species.

I think PaphMadMan might have diagnosed it - this species is somewhat of a cool grower. How much night cooling it needs (as opposed to "tolerates") I don't know, but I have one that grows quite nicely outside in southern California USA. It is fine with winter nights near freezing, it certainly gets a wide diurnal range pretty much all the time. Your leaves look better than mine, but I do get flowers.(It loses some leaves in winter, but then it puts out new growth vigorously) From your location, I think that you should be able to grow this plant outside most of the year if not all the time. At my house, it gets a temperature range from about 35 deg F (2 deg C) on a few winter nights to more than 90 deg F. (32 deg C) in summer. Quite a hardy plant.
