Default Aw, my husband is enabling my orchid obsession!

In the past he's bought me roses for Valentine's Day, but this year I woke up to find a new Odcdm. Catatante 'Orange Kiss' waiting for me on the kitchen counter. He even apparently looked through the available plants for one that seemed like it had healthy roots!

I'm a little worried that it has to join the "cross my fingers and hope the temperature doesn't get too high" oncidium row on the kitchen passthrough with Lady Chatterly and Mystic Maze, but it is certainly lovely. I'm also impressed that this orchid, bought at Safeway, came not only with a label as to what it is, but with a tag giving some common-sense care information about light, watering, etc. (The grower is "Hawaiian Tropicals Direct", on the Big Island, whom I applaud for that effort!)

Nice. We have an arrangement as what the other buys so we are never disappointed.

My oncidium isn't a special one, but it cheerfully tolerated summer temps of 43C last year (That's abut 110 Farenheit).

It is on a mount, so I don't know if that helps it.

Very nice! Wow. Safeway is upping its orchid game (as is your husband) .

My husband knows that orchids trump flowers any day and gifted me with my first Neofinetia falcata for Valentines Day. A Hanakanzashi 花簪. Very excited! As a vanda freak I've been dying to go down the neo rabbit hole. Here we go!

Apparently you have taught your husband well! My husband started my orchid obsession with a Miltoniopsis as a gift a few years ago. Orchids over roses any day! Beautiful Oncidium with an appropriate name on Valentine's Day. Enjoy

Thank you. It really isn't difficult. OK, it DOES mean more watering, but you can do 100 plants in an hour, so it isn't too bad. Quite a few of mine have really come to life once they have gone onto a mount.

Practical me. I was wondering how you cut it, disinfected it etc. I have some birch but it would need treatment 1st. I thought about tree fern but it is messy.

Just take a branch, boil it to kill any bugs/infestations, and away you go!
