Phal with one leaf doesn't grow
Hello,
This is my first post here. I have one Phal orchid, which I recieved as I gift in June2015.
It bloomed beautifully for couple of months I think. Then flowers faded and never grew back.
I cut off the spike.
It used to have 2 or more leaves but they always turned yellow (in the middle of the leaf, also got soft) so I cut them.
In the last year, this poor thing only had one leave, no more grew back.
I read how to care for it. It's in an orchid substrate, mostly bark. I repotted it twice
. First time it had root rot (cut that off). Second time I repotted it last spring and didn't see any rot.
I changed the position of the flower several times during this time hoping that it got too little or too much light. Nothing worked.
I water it once a week by inserting it into water for half an hour, than drain and place the plastic pot into dry ceramic pot.
I watched YouTube videos, even read a thin book about Phal care. I used a fertiliser from time to time, too.
Today I bought a new fertiliser 5,5/5/5. I couldn't find any with 20/20/20 which I saw recommended online, no such fertiliser is available in my town.
I read on this forum that one should shock the flower by putting it into cold place at night. So I was placing it near the very slightly opened window since January. All I got are two tiny buds about 1cm at the bottom, but they might have been there for a long time, I'm not sure. They were hidden below bark. No sign of second leaf growing at all.
It's near south east window during the day.
To be honest, I'm desperate. I'm trying to do my best for this plant. I have other house plants and all of them flourish, people praise me for them, asking me how I take so good care of them.
But this Phal... It's neither alive nor dead, just one single green leaf for a year and a half, without any change!
What should I do? To be honest, I want to throw it out but I know it's a living thing and I want to give it a chance.
