Dendrobium speciosum need help to save it.

Because of tag shows R 1/15 and there arẻ 2 small grows. Plus, it doesnot look strong, roots tie in the pot and I'm curious what is the pot the make plant like that.
Look at this roots system strong healthy and bark. What would you do?

This plant grows very easily and vigorously in S. California. I suspect the previous grower used a proportionally large pot so as not to need to water often. The plant has been grown in very bright light so it looks a little light-stressed. The roots look good.

You can buy bark at specialty nurseries or family-owned nurseries. Many orchid growers sell it. Big box stors don't have much, if any.

I just hate to see plants looking so root bound. I'd repot it in a much wider, but shallow, pot in fine bark.

I do live in Orange County, California... I would agree with the suggestion to use a shallow pot - these things can be quite happy root bound, and in fact tend to grow "birds nest" roots pointing upward as well as the ones in the pot. They grow with roots in crevices of rocks in Australia, and so will put their roots wherever they can. Filtered sun (direct sun can burn leaves) is good. Medium to large bark - again, it must be well drained. But I have seen huge specimens of these growing in rather small pots...(in fact there was a monster Den speciosum in a display at that show where Greenpots bought this plant)Looking at the mix, repotting is a good idea, and now is an excellent time. Oh, these plants are extremely happy outdoors in southern California at all times of the year. I have heard recommendation to reduce watering in winter, but mine get rained upon and still bloom very well. Probably wise to reduce or eliminate fertilizer in winter, though. (It won't hurt the plant to fertilize in winter, but may inhibit bloooming) Now the new growth should be starting, so water and fertilizer are fine
