Iwanagara Appleblossom spike...?
Default Iwanagara Appleblossom spike...?

Hi,

Hope everyone is bracing for the colder weather returning to the eastern US...

I'm curious if it's normal to see this many leaves on an Iwanagara appleblossom. It's its 6th leaf (? or bract?) coming out on one of the psuedobulbs (hard to see on the photo...). Most on google images seem to show 3 or so leaves.

Initially, this bulb was thin and had 4 leaves. It suddenly thickened up and produced a stem? with a few more leaves.

I wonder if this eventually leads to a spike or some aberrant growth caused by over fertilization , etc.

I appreciate any insights -

could be a spike - they are quite robust on this hybrid. Time will tell...

Could be a keiki as well. My Appleblossom 'Hihimanu' is developing one that's formed its own new pseudobulb already. I'm just waiting on the roots.......
