This little mini phal was a gift and it has been happily been making new roots since I repotted it. This newest growth looks more like a flower spike to me (admittedly not an expert!) but why is it in a loop originating from and terminating at the base of the plant? Have you seen this before? WHAT is going on here??? Halp!!

I've seen that happen a few times, though I'm not sure what causes it. Hopefully it will manage to still develop and bloom.

That spike looks as if it's long enuf to become twisted if not placed under lights or a light source the same way say after being watered or moved. This is especially important when buds form since light coming onto them from various angles will make them twist and fall off. I'm thinking it will straighten out on its own tho.
