constantly blooming for 2 year
Are orchids meant to flower all year round ?????
Hi
I purchased 4 orchids all different types (2 are mini 2 large) between December 2014 and February 2015 and all of them are constantly in bloom from the time I acquired them.
They send out new stems and blossom before the flower start to fall so there’s a constant stream of flowers.
On one, the old flower just didn’t die and 2 more stem appeared and produced even more.
So now we’re at the end of December 2016 that’s 2 years of constant bloom and when I say constant I mean there hasn’t been 1 day in 2 years these things haven’t been covered in flowers.
Should I be trying to stop them from blooming (could that kill them constantly blooming????) or is that normal?????
In fact I didn’t think anything was unusual about them until friends and family keep commenting on them.
Thanks

Phals are they?
My big ones don't do that but I have a mini that has flowers for most of the year.
A good bloomer like that you want to take care of it.

Kill them? Those plants are happy as can be! This is not a problem.

If the orchids are also growing new leaves and new roots, and not putting all of their energy into blooming, then it should be fine. The only problem I've had with constant blooms was when the orchid kept blooming but in the meantime it wasn't growing new roots or leaves, and when its old roots have withered and died the orchid has died as well.
I have a couple of orchids that have been sending out new blooming stalks year around, for several years, and are almost never without flowers, and a couple that haven't bloomed even once over the past two years. I think it depends on the individual trait of the orchid, it's "personality" if you will, some seem to be perpetual bloomers, while others will hibernate for a long time and need additional stimuli to bloom. If the orchid is healthy and strong and growing all around, and not trying to bloom when it has no new roots and leaves, "on the last breath" so to say, then it's nothing to worry about. But if it's only blooming and not growing itself, then it seems like a slow ticking bomb that eventually leads it to weaken and die.

As Deena said, if the plants are healthy and growing leaves and roots, not just blooming, you have nothing to worry about. Keep doing whatever you are doing. And it is normal for many types of Phalaenopsis to do this, which is almost certainly what you have.
One note of caution - just because they keep blooming is no excuse to not repot them in fresh mix every couple years. These are probably overdue. If done gently they won't even notice, but if you leave them in aging bark or moss sooner or later your roots will rot.
