Welcome! I'm also in southern California, mostly outdoor grower We're soooooo lucky. Check out my little website Roberta's Orchids to see what grows (mostly) outdoors for me (the Plant Index page indicates where I grow things)

I really don't like driving to a bunch of monthly meetings and the politics was a total turn off. But I wouldn't mind going to a Orchid Show or auction. Is there a show in Jan?

Hmmm.. wonder how long ago that was? So Cal Species is probably the least "political" of all my orchid clubs. Anyhow... Orange County OS has an auction in January Orange County Orchid Society . And Newport Harbor Orchid Society has a show at Westminster Mall Feb 10-12 http://nhosinfo.org/orchidshow/
For southern California calendar of events in general, check out the events page on the Soc Cal Orchid Species website.

I deal with politics at various clubs the same way I approach speaking in public: I pretend everybody in front of me is 2-4 years old. I don't listen to them much and I don't get upset when they call me a potty head.
