Yeah, standard bloody trick. Put twoo small plants in one pot to make it look like one large one.

I have just repotted mine. I say repotted, but mine has gone up onto a mount.

I left the two halves wrapped in newspaper overnight to dry out a little bit. And since I don't know what else to do, put the two halves back in the pot.

In the future, I will not leave this pot to soak up water like I do with my others.

This looks a very solid medium. Mine was in bark with some sphagnum balls, and the roots were radiating out nicely.
Were I in your shoes my temptation would be to tease out the root balls as much as possible without damaging them, and then pot in fine bark with a couple of balls of moss as water reservoirs.

I do agree with Bil that small bark is probably the medium to choose. One thing that I have discovered again and again with new plant acquisitions, that they need repotting more often than not. Often a plant will bloom best when it is crowded in a pot. But also, when a plant blooms, the vendor will be delighted to sell it and avoid the need to repot it. (Nobody pays for repotting) So most new acquisitions DO need repotting.

I agree. I always repot every orchid that I ever buy, no matter what it looks like.
I have had several plants where had I not repotted, it would have died.

I finally repotted this Zygopetalum into a bark based mix. Sorry I didn't do it sooner.

Not only was the Zygopetalum in a dense mix, so was my Oncidium Sharry Baby 'Red Fantasy' And I KNOW the Sharry Baby belongs in an airy mix.

I think that I will be checking orchid roots as soon as I get plants home from now on.
