I'm running out of space...

I wonder what are your suggestions for compact orchids that are suitable for lowland since I live at 8 m (26') above sea level?

I especially like Dendro, Vanda and Phal.

For Dendro I started to collect smaller size such as Hibiki, Rainbow Dance, and Friedericksianum x Nobile Santana. I'm also currently on the look out for Capituliflorum, Bracteosum var tannii, Petticoat x Lyx Minnie, and Usitae.

And for Vanda, I started with Ascocenda and Rhy.

I'd appreciate any inputs

There are many small Vanda hybrids being created by crossing with Neofinetia falcata, and other small species. Start looking for those. A lot of the growing is done in Thailand.

If you are out of space, why buy more orchids?

There are some good ways to free up space. Some of my Cattleyas and my only Bulbophyllum got too large. I have divided them, gave some away for charity, plan to Ebay others next year when the plants are well established. The best division of each will be a smaller full- size plant that I'll keep.

Consider culling your collection. Give away plants that are not doing well for you, or whose requirements you can't meet. Toss plants that care sick and not recovering.

Haha! Would you escort me to all the orchid sales in my area? My wallet could use your logical thinking.

Another orchid-related business idea: Shoperone.

Oberonia - most of them are small and stay small. And are charming.Tiny flowers but LOTS of them. And I think that many will be quite happy in your climate, loving humidity.

The original poster lives in Indonesia, so sources in the US probably won't work. The information on Andy's site will be useful.

Andy is running a sale this weekend. Most of the specials are small to miniature, and too cool-growing for me, but other people here will find them interesting. If you are on his E-mail list you were notified. It's also obvious on the home page.
