Dendrobium purpureum
Hi everyone,
I had read in a recent post that instead of separating the Keiki from the cane it is possible to remove it with the whole cane.
This is my first and only Dendrobium, so I have little experience but I have decided to give it a try.
The Keiki has developed on a new cane that stopped growing and lost its leaves.
I have lost several plants due to the extreme heat of the past summer, so this little one is particularly welcomed .
Today I have cut the cane at the base and mounted it on coir rope.
For now I keep the mount moist, waiting to see signs of growth.
If I'm not mistaken this type of dendrobium does not require a winter rest, and therefore I wonder how long should I wait before starting to water and fertilize regularly.
Ciao Nicola

I would start watering and fertilizing right away.

Agreed, it has nice healthy roots now, keep them that way.

Thank you to both,
I now started to fertilize it and I can see the tips of the roots that have begun to orient themselves toward the mount.
I love watching the roots, this for me is the reason that makes orchids on mounts fascinating.
