I live in Florida as most of you know and we are always looking for ways to conserve on water usage.
My question is this: Are you able to recycle water that is used on orchids. Keep in mind that I do use a water soluble fertilizer Jack's Classic. I am currently not reusing water but was thinking about that this morning. It seems to me that reusing water might be a bad idea, but I thought that I would check here first.
I do re-use the leachate from watering my orchids -- but not on other orchids! I use the old turkey baster method and just dump it in another houseplant. You don't want to spread any potential problems (disease, pests, etc.)
Here are a few ideas:
1. Catch rainwater from a gutter downspout. pH is usually pretty good and it's free.
2. Get a gallon (or bigger) pump sprayer. You can really soak em' without running a lot through the bottom.
i reuse all my water on other houseplants. which it seems as my orchid collection grows so does the number of other houseplants. the local african violet greenhouse loves me!
