Oh no! That potting mix is too soil-like for your orchid. I'm wondering if that's miracle grow's supposed orchid mix? I bought it in the beginning but returned it because it just didn't look like the mix people were using online. Plus the bark in miracle grow is too fine and looks ready to disintegrate. Others have reported finding bugs in the bag. I've seen that brand have an actual bark mix, but the bark chunks are large. If you can't find an orchid supply store, you might have to search online.

Miracle grow's orchid mix is too fine and very soil like. I found out the hard way too many years ago.

Charles, you ARE going to find your own successful method! Be patient with yourself. I don't grow what and how Tindo, John and others do...but, I am successful and the plants bring us joy. Sometimes the joy really is in the journey.

Any chance the plant got too cold? Was it outside with cold nights?

Was planning on securing my plant down a little sturdier with rhizome clips after seeing that my support system was getting moldy:

Have you been leaving it outside so it gets cold, or are you just taking it outside to photograph it? I can't think of much else other than cold that would cause all the roots to die in such a short period of time.

No not outside at all, if any photos were taken out there it would be momentarily only.

That degree of root loss is very strange in less than 2 weeks. The leaves yellowed and fell off because there weren't enough roots to supply water to the plant, so it auto-pruned.

With no roots in the medium, you will want to keep it as warm and humid as possible, and spritz the small remaining root every 1-2 days. Soaking the medium us unnecessary until new roots penetrate the medium. If you have a kelp product this would be the time to use it.

Default Edgar update!!

We are still trying, nothing was happening in the medium so I removed and have been spritzing where roots should be, not much happening though.
