Winter Care for My Miniatures, Anything I Should Know?
Hi all,
Fall is in the air and winter is approaching. I am trying to research winter care for my small collection to make sure everything blooms and also gets any necessary rest. A few specifics I'm having trouble with; is there any special winter care for Nageliella Purpurea and my Tolumnia? I have various types of tolumnia, some species and some hybrids. Everything is mounted except for 2 tolumnia, which are in clay pots. Also, I'm mostly an indoor grower (I have been moving some outside for temperature cues), so suggestions for greenhouse growing are wasted on me. Any info is appreciated! (Light increases/decreases, water adjustments, temperature cues, etc.)

You don't say where you live, which has a large bearing on what to do.
Tolumnias need as much light as possible in typical northern winters. Northern winter light, even in a south window, is not what they prefer. The Naegeliella is accustomed to getting more light in the winter than the summer, since it tends to grow on winter-deciduous trees, though it is fairly warm all year. Most Tolumnias prefer warmer surroundings than many people keep their houses in the winter. Others here in colder climates than mine should be along shortly to offer opinions.

Ah, sorry about that. I live in Memphis, Tennessee; hideously hot summers, frosty winters. Thanks for the info though. Keep them both well lit and warm, eh?

Tolumnia, yes. The Naegeliella can handle very cool night temperatures, but not freezing. Both of these are twig epiphytes than can't store water very well, so they need regular watering.
