Try more light! I did burn mine this summer though so don't just do what I did and throw them into a south facing window. My dens and oncidiums were fine with that but I should have acclimated my cattleya gradually.

The blooms on a cattleya usually only last a few weeks compared to other orchids. However, you can often get multiple leads growing together that can bloom separately through the year.

Cattleya are also nice because they are very difficult to kill. I have some rootless Cattleya (from repotting at the wrong time they) but they seem fine about it. They are not my favourite orchid though because they can be such a handful when they get large...

Thanks for the info... so far I am finding cattleyas to be the most difficult to grow orchids that I have, or maybe they just show stress quickly?

Really all orchids are the same. Give them the conditions they like, and they will grow well. The problem arises when you take them outside of their comfort zone, ie trying to grow two very different orchids under the same conditions.

Interesting....although I have my Cattleya for about 2 weeks not blooming yet, I find them hardy and can resist bacteria rots and insect bites even when heavily watering on the leaves. The leaves are harder and more robust. With my dendrobium, have it for about a month, the growth is slower. I am currently fighting some insects eating my leaves. I had to cut and trim several older leaves since I have it...

And oncidium is a ridiculous fast growing orchid. I have it for about 2 weeks and the newer pseudo bulb has grown 2x in size. Within 3 days I have it, I could already see new growth from the roots.
