Unhappy Cycnoches Dried flower before blooming

I have a Cycnoches Bathiorum "Pink Dove" I bought this past September 9. Everything was going fine and the plant looks healthy to me, but All over sudden the flower started drying before blooming. It actually was it's first flowering. If anybody could tell me what may be the cause. I also would like to know if there is a chance for it to bloom soon after this. Thank you.

Welcome to the Orchid Board!

Blooms may die in bud stage because of not enough water, or bugs may have damaged the flower spike. Sometimes spider mites or thrips can damage flower spikes. These are very small bugs you would need a magnifying glass to see.

Spider mites are common pests on this kind of orchid, especially during hot, dry weather. They often leave a fine silvery web over the plant.

This kind of plant might bloom again this season, or it might wait until it grows again.

Thank you for the info Estacion Seca. I'll check to see if I fiind the spiderweb, but it could be little wattering as well. Sometimes I'm afraid to drown the plants so I try not to over do it.

Plants in this group of orchids, Catasetinae, need a lot of water when they are in leaf.
