I think we can all agree, staying on task of thread for the OP is the goal, thanks to jkoffer for keeping things on track, for sure... but certainly don't want to turn away the members here that offer great deeper information on topics, like Ray and Orchid whisperer among others... I for one really love this kind of insight and info..

Hopefully charles has gotten what is useful for him, but we shouldn't just assume he wouldn't find the other tangential information not useful or "just" confusing... just haven't heard from him! Do hope he wasn't scared off!

This is nothing.

Certain members and certain subjects have certain reactions. Pull up a chair, pop some popcorn and be educated while entertained.

To the OP: Urea, non-urea, neither are detrimental.

No not scared off, like running away or something...just taking it in both ways!

Charles - Good for you!

JK - Peace. Sorry if I took things a little more sensitively than I should.

OW - They were in Marschner's Mineral Nutrition in Higher Plants, and Benzing's Vascular Epiphytes books - which I have sold, so I cannot get more specific.

Talked to an orchid grower recently and he told me to use all types of orchid food during a month. It means growth, rooting and blooming interpolated. Flush every few weeks. I. Case you've got Vandas he told to use a very weak dosage sometimes a day / everyday)
This is the post that stumped me!

Well, look on the bright side. At least I now understand the challenges you are facing, given your educational background.

I tried several stores today. Miracle Gro also offered a set of 10-10-10 spikes.
This was a few days ago . . .

I would avoid those spikes. Too much fertilizer concentrated in too small an area, right around the spike.

It is really not necessary to go with fully balanced fertilizer (all 3 numbers equal). In terms of the plant's needs, all plants need N, P, and K, the P requirement is typically lowest of these three macronutrients. As long as you are providing some of each macronutrient, your plants will benefit.

That's funny. I was thinking exactly the same thing!

It's evident that both of you are facing the same challenges.
