Dendrobium yellow leaves
I realy have a problem. Few weeks ago I got a 3 Dendrobium phalaenopsis orchids (without blooms). One by one, every leaf from every dend fell off. I'm not new to orchids and I grow many other species and hybrids succesfuly but I really can't understand why is this happening? I keep them together with my Cattleyas, and Vanilla, they receive a bit of winter sun.
I suppose that is the way how Dends react when shocked, but I really doubt that conditions at my place are so much different from conditions at the place from where I got them.
What should i do now? The canes are now leafless but firm and 'healthy'. Will plant make the new growth from the base, or keiki, or it will die? What should I expect?
I noticed many cases like this on the Internet.

Is it possible that they are going into a rest period? Mine is doing the same type thing, but it had been blossoming one cane after the other for so long,...I'm thinking rest.
Not sure, now. Just a guess.

As much as I know, Phal type Dendrobiums do not have resting period.
I'm growing nobile-type dends succesfuly, and having no problems with them.

Check on those roots. What kinda media do you have these in? Are the canes full?
Can you post a photo?

Roots were almost all rotten when i got them. I have transplanted the plants in pure bark. Guess I will have to wait for the plat to make new roots. I will post the pictures.

My Den. nobile is doing the same. All the leaves is turning yellow and falling off. The newer stems and leaves are still fine though. Any ideas?

From what I know dendrobium does not stop growing therefore it means that dendrobium do not have a rest period . Regardless to the roots it will grow back about 3months . Dendrobium phal are warm growers so if you put them in cool room , it will shock them and they will start losing their leaves . They also love the sun ; don't listen much form other websites , I put them in full sun from morning to night (no shade ) and they bloom every two to four months . These are some of my knowledge because I live in Singapore where 365 days is summer if you live in counties where there are four seasons try to get dendrobium phal a warmer place during winter about 27-33 degrees Celsius . Good luck happy planting !!

same thing happened to my dend sonia,i bought it in winter and was so worried about it getting enough light and air that i was moving it from pillar to post so poor thing didnt know what was happening, two canes lost all leaves and all but 1 flower remained for a while once i calmed down and let it be in on place, its spring here now i dont see any new growth the plant seems to be in some kind of static mode mode not growing and not dying so im just being patient and hopefull.

Then that is why the leaves have dropped, the roots have rotted. Give it time. As long as the canes are still firm, it has a fighting chance. It may just grow another basal growth where new leaves will form later. I adopted a noid Phal Den in 2013, well, it had roots and one active cane, but it is giving me now buds this year on the new growth. So pretty much your plant will just use the existing cane as source of energy for future new growth.
