Phalaenopsis getting a branch

I have a Phalaenopsis I've had for a couple years. It is sprouting a branch above the second set of leaves - has anyone else had this happen? It's not, apparently, a keiki.

A branch? Sounds like a spike...which means flowers in your future! Yes, photo would really help to identify.

Sorry, no pics, no camera working. It is definitely not a spike. It's Thickish and has at least one leaf and the bare beginning of another one.

I thought on Phals the kiekies only came on the flower stems.

Nope, look up "basal keiki".

I just looked at it again. It has 3 leaves, no roots. On the other side of the main plant a spike is starting to form.

Phals often sprout new growths from the stem. The leaves tend to develop pretty far before new roots grow. Most people leave all the growths together, because the multi-headed plant makes an impressive display when flowering.

That's what I would like to do, as it is from my favorite Phal - bloomed for a year and was a gorgeous ashes of roses with peach color.
