Trichoglottis bracheata (philippinensis)
Default Trichoglottis philippinensis var bracheata

Hello everyone!! I hope everyone enjoyed their Labor Day weekend(:

I am new to the orchid world and just started Angry Moon Orchids, a nursery for orchids and plumeria, in Rockledge, FL. It is a small biz, with just under 1,000 plants, but here I am, getting my feet wet 😝

Recently, I have been experimenting with trying to cross some breeds, and it appears that I may have succeeded with my Trichoglottis because one flower is left and the stem is swelling up! I used a Neofinetia falcata to try the cross, so am hoping I can get the seeds to grow, if in fact it becomes a seed pod. Does anyone have any info on this? If it becomes a seed pod, what kind of media should the agar be made from?

Thanks for any input from anyone(:
Jeannie

Hi! I'm not too far from you, maybe I can visit someday. I can't say I've heard of Trichoglottis hybrids, but as they're both in the Vanda tribe maybe it'll work. I've never plated seeds before, so I can't help with the agar question. I know a grower there in Palm Bay- Jamie Lawson?- has a propagation lab, maybe he could help with questions. I imagine if you asked at the Platinum Coast Orchid Society, they could put you in touch.

*looks at my 'black' brachiate, tries to imagine what the cross would look like*
