Saving A Rotting Oncidium? Male
Default Saving A Rotting Oncidium?

Hi Folks,

Would greatly appreciate some advice, I resuced what I am guessing is an oncidium, but found that one bulb was entirely rotting and another had begun to, I split the bulbs up (didnt seem like any other option) but the only non rotten ones were the two new growths on the plant (one with flowers)

I took put them in separate pots and have been leaving them to dry (to prevent mold or further rotting) before watering them again, any advice on how or if these can be saved?

For some reason I can only attach one image per post from my phone!

This is what it looked like before I split it up!

What you did was their only chance. Oncidiums can rot when they stay too wet, which is probably what happened at the previous growing locale or store.

Keep them humid. Water them, but let them get almost dry between waterings.

People have had the 1-photo problem with iPhones here. Something to do with labeling every photo image.jpg and replacing the previous one with the new one. I don't have an iPhone but if you search you will find people's solutions here.

One more thing- remove the bloom spike from the one bulb. It needs all its energy to survive right now, and the blooms will just drain it.

I have been hoping that one of the flowers would open so that I could potentially identify it and get a replacement should they both die, one of the buds has dried but another is about to open in maybe a day or so by the looks of it. Should I just cut it off now, or will it likely to be okay to wait for one to open?

Put it in water and they may still open. The buds look like a Miltonia.
