Need advice for Phal with sudden changes

I have a Phal which appears to be doing very well. It just finished a bloom cycle from an old flower spike. What has me concerned is that the blooms all fell off in a matter of 3 or 4 days and now the flower spike is rapidly turning brown. I haven't changed anything in the treatment of the plant. I am not sure what should be done with the plant, if anything. Do I leave it alone? Do I cut off the spike? Do I repot? I would really appreciate some sage advice.

The plant looks healthy and actively growing. It was probably just time for the plant to pull the plug on that spike based on phase of growth and no likelihood of seedpod or more flowers from that spike. If the spike is turning brown you might as well cut it. Now would be a good time to check root health and condition of the media and consider repotting.

Your plant looks to be very happy. I would also cut the bloom spike and let it grow some new leaves and wait for a rebloom in time.

I took your advice and repotted the Phal to a slightly smaller clear plastic pot with lots of side and bottom venting. The roots looked quite good although a few looked to me like they might be getting too much moisture which is the reason I decided to go to a smaller well vented pot. I also changed medium to a smaller less absorbent bark. I also cut the spike back to about 1 inch. I did not water. I will do that in 3-4 days to let the roots recover. Got my fingers crossed that I did the right things.
