In this case, several species are native here. In gardens they're used often to make what I think it's called a bower (not sure of the correct term).

Anyway, in orchids the only one I've smelled was my den nobile...and I need to put its flowers inside my nose to feel the scent.

I do have lilacs all around my house and a couple of mock orange shrubs. They are beautiful and smell wonderful. The other trees that are really fragrant are the local black locust trees. they come out just after the lilacs and smell heavenly. In my garden I love my tall garden phlox. They are intoxicating.
