I've had problems with one reputable seller, one plant with a bug infestation and then misinformation about another. When I saw them again they tried lying to me again to get me to buy the plant (not knowing I'd already done so the time before) before I called them out on their bs

That isn't sprayed on green, it's how algae grows in damp conditions. The blank space is where tape or some other thing covered it. Having said that, it looks bad for $42. To justify that price, in that condition, it better be very hard to come by.

Interesting. Do you think it could still be taken advantage of by the seller to cover up the poor condition of the roots?

I have an issue with sellers that don't show pictures of the actual plant but most of the plants I buy (miniatures) are sold this way. Depends on the vendor, I buy from Andy's a lot and he only shows the bloom so it's a guess as to what "my" plant will look like but I trust him. eBay vendors need to show me the exact plant unless they are a vendor I've purchased from before with excellent plants. I hope you get this resolved to your satisfaction, what a shame and you had shipping issues as well. Good luck.

Ya, that always bugs me about Andy's... Actually where this one came from. I agree about needing to see the plant on ebay, it's a must! There's definitely some great stuff on there. I also really like laorchid because they always show a pic of what the plant should look like, though I wish they gave a little more written info about the plants age, growing conditions etc.

Sometimes when I shop at Andy's, not looking for anything in particular, I find an interesting plant and then do a search before I decide to buy it or not. With the growing information he gives it's a shame there are not at least pictures of the plant.
I would definitely contact him about this plant.
Funny you mentioned laorchid, I just ordered from him for the first time. I emailed with a question and he replied immediately. He has nice plants and good prices with reasonable shipping.

Oh crap! We agree again!
Nobody is "spraying" algae.
Algae needs light plus water plus fertilizer. Areas that are shaded, shielded from water, or that dry out more rapidly, will not grow it like those that are exposed.

I'd shoot the nursery some pics, be to the point, polite and firm about how you feel and ask for a refund. If a plant such as this showed up in an order from a domestic source on my end, I'd do at least that, and make a note not to patronize said nursery. On the other hand, if the plant arrived this way from an international source, I'd understand. It looks to me like said nursery took in plants from Malaysia, South Africa or Thailand at one of the recent big shows (á la Redlands) and is not taking the time to grow them on/out.
Just my 2.5¢,
Adam
