Wilting flower on new phalaenopsis - Orchid Board

My three week old phal. has several new buds on the end of its stem and 3 happy looking blooms. The 4th bloom has begun to wilt. Its planted in bark in clear plastic and it still looks moist down around the roots. Is this okay? TIA

By 'three week old' I presume you have had it for three weeks? Or has it been in bloom for three weeks? If it was in bloom when you purchased it, it could be shock at being moved. If you bloomed it, we need to work from there. Which is it?

Then I would assume the wilting flower is due to stress and don't worry. Actually you may lose a bud or two as well, but we hope not. Just enjoy it and next bloom should be more stable.

I'll jump in with my 2 cents worth. It is probably just an older flower naturally wilting. As long as all else looks good, this is normal. Who knows how long it had been open before you got it home. Just sit back and enjoy.

It sounds like the normal amount of time the flower will last, it was in bloom when you bought it ..so you have no idea how old that wilting bloom is .. or do you?

It could also go through a bit of bud blast where buds/flowers will drop due to a change in temperature and/or environment .. again, this is not unusual ..
The medium sounds moist enough to leave for a few more days. Phals like to dry out a bit before you water again

I've just started this hobby/obsession and I'm fretting over my new charges. Too much I'm sure.

What you need to do is get obtain enough orchids so you don't fret over just one

I was the same way when I started .. I would check it everyday for growth .. I would examine every nook and cranny .. after getting a few .. my fretting diminished .. Now the less I look, the more excited I get when I do find something happening (especially new growth nubbins

)
