Why are phal leaves growing on side?
Default Why are phal leaves growing on side?

Hi. I'm new to posting here (thought I would give it a shot) and have a decent collection of different orchids but my phal is doing something I haven't seen. It is creating new mini leaves on the side at the base as well as developing new normal leaves. It also looks like it might be creating a flower spike. I was wondering why these leaves are growing in two areas (top and side)? Thanks!

I believe this is one of the ways for phals to propagate. But I'll let more experienced friends to have their say.

It is called a basal keiki. As rbarata stated, it is one way for a orchid to propagate.

If everything is healthy, keep doing what you've been doing. In a couple of years, you'll get a awesome display.
