I don't like the look of my cymbidium roots either. They are quite brown too.
I think it might be similar for pleiones or generally more terestrial orchids but pleinones just got added to the wishlist ha. A paph still hasn't made it to mine either. I've seen what their roots look like in the past though, more brown than cymbidium roots.

Some of the furrier Paph roots remind me of tarantula legs. That's perhaps not the most endearing comparison for some people, but I like it. =)

I think so too lob,
look there is one "leg" poking out of this pot and it has made a nice fort, waiting to pounce.
