What have I done??? I spray about 3-4 mists pumps per day. I went out of town for four days and now this is what's happening. Been back for one week. New sprout turned black and the dried up and I cut off this morning. Roots are dry. Have I over watered or under watered???

Thanks for your help fellow orchid lovers. Tam

We need a bit more history and how this was potted etc. It looks under watered to me. With several pumps from a mister daily, it seems to me the roots further down would never get water. the surface would get a bit wet and dry in a few hours. Assuming it was potted from the looks of it. Cattleyas like to be well watered with water running thru the pot that has good drainage. Then allowed to dry out before being watered like that again. Often 5 days to a week, depending on growing conditions. In summer maybe more often.

Sorry to say, but to me that orchid is ready for orchid heaven. Buy another one and welcome to Orchid Board where you can learn to grow it successfully.
