The Saddest Part Of Growing Orchids...
To me, the saddest part of growing orchids is when the blooming season comes to an end
Oh WAIT!!
New growth....never mind

That's why you need more orchids. So you can have something in bloom year round

I have 43 different kinds/colors in 49 different pots/baskets/plants.
I'm pretty close to that "year round" thing
43 and 49 -- weird numbers. I know.
Guess I'm going to have to fix that shortly

The saddest part for me was giving away all the large Cattleyas. I knew I wanted to do it so that I would have more space but it was still difficult. Now I have a bunch of seedling orchids a few years away from blooming...again.

Mine were taking up too much space, so I put them on mounts. Every mounted orchid leaves space for another on the bench
Cackle!

tell me about, if not seedlings I'm swimming in divisions, that even then may be a while before blooming... then i was thinking, if/when they all get big where will they go? LOL
I too live in apt and limited space... so I only really grow mini's, and all the biggish ones are on mounts and hanging on the sides of the balcony! it's not fighting for bench space, it's fighting for plant stand space... oy... (and a lot of mini's are hanging off the plant stands)
fortunately I tend to have something blooming year round, but wouldn't mind more blooming year round... or for that matter more growth... I can't complain enough about how many orchids literally sit there and do nothing for months!
Ode to a greenhouse!

A lack of space just means we need to be more creative about what we grow.

I totally know the feeling. I was in a basement apartment for 4 years right before I came here. The only plant I had was a sanseveria. Right now I have a little side yard all my own, but I still live in a shared house, and it is not my own so I can only have "portable things."
