White residue on Vanda orchid leaves?
Default White residue on Vanda orchid leaves?

I have a white crust growing on its leaves that it didn't have before. It's getting thicker. I only use distilled water on them, and I've washed the leaves in water several times and dried them. It still reappears after completely drying, just as thick as it was before. What is this?

I have no idea what it is. Try using milk or I think some people use mayo to clean the leaves. I'm thinking the water is just not cutting it.

I wouldn't try the mayo method. I once tried it on a healthy schefflera to shine the leaves. Within two weeks they turned yellow and began to fall off. I'm not sure if the oils plug up the pores in the leaves or if some sort of bacterial thing happens from other ingredients.

I'm not sure what it is, but I think it might not be mineral residue from watering. I wonder whether some Vandas can produce waxy substances like a lot of Brassavolas. I just ignore it on my plants.

I'll try lemon, if that doesn't work, then I'll just ignore it. I'm worried about it because when I got them, the substance wasn't there. In 2 weeks, it became like this.

You know I did think of the oil in it after I wrote this. I have never tried it I just remember someone saying it. I just use water then dry them off.

If it is minerals, they are likely carbonate, so alcohol won't do it; it requires an acid.
