a tip for when you tie mounts.
Default a tip for when you tie mounts.

I have found the gibbet arrangement a godsend for working on mounts, and the reel for a clean line feed. The idea of also wrapping a bit of something to the tail end also helps, as losing that tail end is a pain.

The other problem is that the line, being light is very prone to catching as it is blown here and there by breezes. So, I have come up with the idea of threading a bead onto the line to keep it down and out of the way. I just drilled a hole in a bit of the wood I chopped off a mount, but a proper bead would do. It needs to be heavy enough to keep the line down, but not so heavy that it makes the reel unwind.
