To cut or not to cut
Default To cut or not to cut

Good afternoon,

I have two orchids here that I have cutting questions on. Both are pictured below. The dendro just finished blooming as far as I know. This is all new to me. I posted the picture of when it had little blooms. My question on that one is, when they are done blooming, do I leave the canes alone or do I need to cut them at the ends at all to promote re - blooming?

Then there is an epidendrum, I believe. You can see that it is about to bloom from one spike. But, what about the other spike to the left? Should I cut where the brown is on the stem?
Thank you - Jen

I don't cut anything from my orchids until it's brown and dry..except if there's a big problem like rot, or something.

Dendri often send off keiki up the canes.
And some of my Phal's have produced keiki on the flower stalks and other flower stalks have bloomed year after year (2 on their 3rd year).

But me and others can give better advise once you're able to get the pics posted.

I think you can just leave it alone. Your orchids are healthy

Don't cut back bulbs from Dendrobiums until they turn brown and die.

You can cut Epidendrum flower spikes the way you cut yours when they begin to turn brown. Many of them will make new plantlets from the nodes on the stem, so you can propagate new plants like that if you wish. If you cut far below the head of flowers you can often prevent this.
