Reporting a new orchid
I bought a just add ice (Phalenopsis) orchid a few weeks ago, I've had them in the past but have all died. This one has been a fighter though. I want to repot it because I know a new orchid should be repotted and the petals on this one is starting to welt (possibly because lack of water since I've only soaked it once a week and my apartment has dry air). The roots through its clear pot look pretty good though, besides the ones that grew through the drainage holes at the bottom, they broke and turned brown/black. The roots are tightly wound in circles at the bottom of the pot as well. So I measured the pot it's in, and it's about 6"s. I went online and bought a 8" basket for it to put it in when it's out of bloom. Will there be an issue placing it in so much more room?
I noticed moisture getting stuck between the roots and the pot and it's turning the side of the roots brown. I figured with an wood hanging basket, it will have more air flow and wouldn't have a water issue even if it's a bit larger. Am I incorrect? Help please and thank you.
Pics of the roots and a few of the wilted flowers.

Phalenopsis is it? Please don't water it with Ice. Personally I would repot it with coarse bark and nothing else, in a decent sized pot, as then you can't overwater it.
Any chance of a pic?

Yea, it's a Phalenopsis. And I don't use ice, I soak it about 15 min.s in distilled water. I just got the fertilizer for it with no urea, so I put half a teaspoon in the water after it soaked and dipped it back in for a few min.s. I don't soak it again until I can feel the bark inside is dry. I'll take pictures in a moment and post them.

No, it's an Ice Bucket Challenge orchid!
Sorry, couldn't resist this one.
Callaslily isn't using ice. A picture would be of tremendous help.

Opss, haven't noticed the pics.
I don't see nothing wrong with your orchid, healthy roots, some are rot which is normal, flowers had their time and will be gone soon.
But the medium seems to be seriously degraded. A larger pot with bark only would be ok.
One more thing...next time it blooms the flowers will probably be white and not blue.

Yea, I know, they dyed it. I'm perfectly fine with white. Thank you for your help!

Welcome to the Orchid Board!
Its roots looks surprisingly good. A basket as you describe, with large-chunk bark that dries quickly, should do very nicely. There is a lot of information about Phalaenopsis in the Beginner Discussion forum here in these threads:
